Lawyers from our Singapore and London offices
collaborated with People’s Planet Project (PPP)
– through the International Lawyers Project
network – to support an Indigenous community
facing threats to their ancestral land, their
health, and their livelihoods because of intense
logging and prospective mining on their island.
PPP collaborates with Indigenous communities
in their battle against deforestation through
capacity-building workshops in video and
geospatial data technologies in order to collect
evidence of the damage. PPP also connects
Indigenous groups to local legal representation
and advocacy strategies; our lawyers assisted
PPP in researching past successful examples
of similar initiatives and will also collaborate
to assemble a Human Rights Toolkit that will
be used by the community to help vindicate
its rights.
In Mexico, we partnered with local nonprofits
to organize and provide legal trainings to
Mayan and Mazahua Indigenous communities,
advising them on topics of health and
reproductive rights, gender violence, voting
rights, and agrarian rights.
In Continental Europe, we provided legal
assistance to organizations such as the
Magazine of Color, a publication and education
platform seeking to empower those affected
by racism in German-speaking countries. We
also assisted the European Supplier Diversity
Program, which connects ethnic-minority and
immigrant-owned supply businesses with
an established corporate network to provide
education, capital, and support services.
