(iii) The Crown Estate Scotland:
ScotWind Leasing
In January 2022, Crown Estate Scotland
announced the results of its application
process for a leasing round known as
ScotWind Leasing, selecting 17 fixed
and floating projects covering just over
7,000km² of seabed.22 It was the first
round of offshore wind leasing round
in Scottish waters for a decade. The
ScotWind projects are expected to have a
combined capacity of up to 27.6GW, forming a potentially substantial proportion
of the 100GW of offshore wind that the
Climate Change Committee states is
needed by 2050 to deliver net zero.23
A further three options were awarded following the completion of the clearing process. These further projects are expected
to generate 2.8GW of electricity 24 .
The latest figures from The Crown Estate
Scotland, taking into account all 20 projects, now show initial total Scottish commitments of £28.8bn. The 20 successful
applicants and projects were as follows25:
