Anti-violence
Our dedication to advancing racial justice spans multiple
areas of focus, and we have strengthened our anti-violence
work by intentionally approaching these issues through an
anti-racism framework. Below are some examples of this work.
Award-winning work
Hogan Lovells received the Pro Bono Institute’s prestigious
John H. Pickering Award in October 2023. Hundreds of
corporate and law firm leaders devoted to improving access
to justice gathered in New York City’s Gotham Hall for PBI’s
annual celebration of pro bono.
The firm was honored during the event for our “outstanding
institutional commitment to pro bono and the inspiring pro
bono performance of [our] attorneys and staff.”
We also had the opportunity to screen a short video focused
on our pro bono work combatting violence: at the macro
level through our gun violence prevention work, and at the
micro level through our representation of victims of domestic
violence and their families.
Representing victims of hate crimes
We represented a gay Asian man and his elderly parents in
their efforts to seek justice after they were brutally assaulted.
The family was taking a walk in their neighborhood when the
perpetrator yelled anti-Asian and homophobic slurs at them
before attacking all three. Our clients suffered broken bones
and lacerations from the unprovoked attack.
