EDITOR’S PREFACE
Halfway into 2023 and we find ourselves in
gripping times as the offshore wind market
further grows—within the "first" home
regions and beyond. Along with these developments, not the least "offshore wind
auctions taking place for the first time in
markets like India, come market shakeups
as supply demands in the offshore wind
industry increase. From steel production
to construction vessel availability but also
wharf congestions, adding to this cost
inflation and local content challenges
such as in Taiwan, the sector is buzzing
with the urgency to meet the needs of
project roll outs across the globe. While
indeed a challenge, as bottlenecks in
supply chains could be, this also paves
the way for new players to dive into the
sector and blow a capful of wind onto
the pricing and package offerings in
the supply chain.
As the offshore wind market further
expands---despite global financial challenges---this year’s edition
mirrors such expansion, adding
three chapters to the roster: Brazil,
Norway and the Philippines.
Brazil’s coastline, which spans
more than 7,000kms, and good
average wind speeds help identify
it as an emerging market for offshore wind. Norway, with the
North Sea and the Norwegian
continental shelf, has extensive
