It is based on 2 separate
technology groups (‘pots’):
Pot 1: Energy from Waste with
CHP, Hydro (>5MW and 5MW),
Remote Island Wind (>5MW), Sewage Gas, and Solar Photovoltaic
(PV) (>5MW); and
Pot 2: ACT, AD (>5MW), Dedicated Biomass with CHP, Floating
Offshore Wind, Geothermal, Tidal
Stream, and Wave
As such, it sees offshore wind competing directly against other more
established technologies, while
floating offshore wind is grouped
with and competes alongside other
less established technologies.
For wind, the CfD Administrative Strike Prices (£/MWh, in
2012 prices) announced were as
follows: Floating Offshore Wind –

Offshore Wind – 44; and

requested evidence about whether
to award CfDs not just on price, but
also based on how much a renewable energy project contributes to
the wider health of the renewable
energy industry. ‘Non price factors’
would be considered in the awarding of CfDs, such as supply chain
sustainability, skills training, innovation and enabling system and grid
flexibility and operability. Plans for
auction round 6 (AR6) are already
well underway.
(e) Innovation – Floating Offshore Wind
In October 2019, the UK Offshore
Renewable Energy Catapult launched
the Floating Offshore Wind Centre of
Excellence, backed by funding from the
Scottish government, the Catapult’s
Welsh centre and support from Cornwall
and the Isles of Scilly Local Enterprise
Partnership.16 The Centre of Excellence
aims to:
• reduce the cost of energy from floating
wind;
• accelerate the build-out of floating
farms;

2023 Review
In April 2023, the UK Government
announced that it would be inviting
input from renewable energy
market participants on potential
changes to the CfD scheme. It
